The proposed Morningsida-Kuitneu railway deviation, via 1@ Atatu # wa? this chief subject for discussion at tho mseting of the Waimauku Resid«nti and Ratepayers' "Association this wetik. Mr. J. B. Copeland presided. Mir. C. E. Davis, vice-president of tho Kumett Ratepayers' Association, addrcuaed the meeting. He emphasised the fact that the present route via Henderson was 19 miles, and Included grades as steep as one in 37 .and one in 40, whereas the proposed route would reduce the distance by 6i miles and would have no grade exceeding one in 100. After discussion a resolution was Carrie? unanimously pledging the association to support the movement in favour of the deviation. Arrangement;} were made to canvass the district systematically for signatures to a petition which is to be presented to Parliament. The question of establishing a centred telephone Bureau instead of the present system of two offices was discussed. Both tfje Kurncu and Waimauku Associations intend to press for this change!.
