TARANAKI MAIL ROUTE.
USE, OF ROAD* {SUGGESTED, INQUIRY TO BE MADE. A further appeal for support iti its efforts to obtain a motor mail service between New Plymouth and Tc Kuxti has been received by the council of tho Auckland Chamber of Commerce from ♦he Taranaki Chamber. The latter stated that already mails were being; carried by the sesfvice emu between To Kuiti and Awakino, and between New Plymouth and Ihe sam« place. The transit time for mails from New Plymouth to Auckland by road and rail would bo loj hours. By rail .alo»is at present it was 22 hours, and by steamer 1.5 hours and upwards, A mail despatched from New Plymouth at 12.30 p.m.. would- reach Te Kuiti the same evening, whereas it did not arrive now until 2.15 a.m., two days later. The " Friday night steamer mail from New Plymouth was not delivered until late on Saturday morning, arid the tiaio of tho steamer s arrival at Onehuliga was always subject to a good, deal of variation, The council decided to reply that it intended to make independent inquiries of the Post and Telegraph Department about the suitability of the motor services for the carriage of through mails.
