LEAKAGES X M WATER MAIN. SUPPLY LINE TO TOKANUI, [by teleghaph.— own correspondent. ] TE AWAHT7TU. Wednesday. " A very unsatisfactory business," was the> reference made at the Borough Council meeting by Mr. McGeehie when the engineer reported that there were still many leakages in the water supply pipe line from the borough boundary to serve the Tokanui Mental Hospital. The engineer stated that the daily leakage was about 30,000 gallons, and though the contractors had made many efforts to improve matters, a big leakage had been occurring daily since last November. He added that, the department was being charged Is 6d per IGOO gallons for all water passing through the meters. The Minister of Lands has informed the Borough Council that ho is making further inquiry regarding the council's request for additional land in the forest reserve on Pircngia, Mountain for the municipal water supply catchment area. The borough engineer expects that the asphalting of Kihikihi Road, to the borough boundary, will be completed this week if the weather continues fine. That will give a highway 'from the railway station toward Kihikihi of approximately two miles of bitumen surfaced road. On view in Te Awamntu at present is the? Howden Shield, which was donated by Mr. H. Howden, of Hamilton, for competition among fire brigades in the South Auckland districts. The next competition i takes place at Te Awamutn on March 27, and brigade teams, from all parts of the territory are expected to compete. The Hamilton; brigade has won the last two contests, on its own ground, and this year has hsinded tha shield over for comAwamutn so as to create additional interest.
