GREY RIVALS BEIGE.
Grey is a colour that has of late suffered more? or loss- a suspension from ' fashion's colour card. For many seasons our dress artists have violently championed caramel fawns and sand shades, which undoubtedly have proved particularly becoming and also practical on account of their being permitted within the brown category, which is such a specially useful colour in matters of hats and shoes. The mysterious charms of grey are being cleverly exploited at and other-fashionable resorts. A smoky-grey chiffon tunic was laced with silver cords, and worn over a paler grey satin slip. The long-fitting sleeves wore slashed with silver, and a quaint berthc of silvered lace marked a deep V-neck opening. A picturesque* "tricorae" ill grey velvet, with a large diamond pin and a handbag of platinunf and diamonds, with satin shoes simlarly decorated, suggested a striking casino toilette. Will grey furs be worn with distinction in the new season ? The leading furriers are already showing long travelling coats of beautifully marked squirrel, The newest fur capes are especially lovely in this fur. The skins are cut and treated like mink 6? mole-skin, so that all the wonderful lights and shades peculiar to this grey, fur are brought out. The old-world circular cape is cut wide and long, with stripes sometimes arranged'in horizontal lino;: or the reverse, the large pillow or bolster collars having the skins worked in the contrasting way. Grey opossum, too, and several imitation foxes and chinchilla of a similar shads will assume that significance associated with a new colour crazo. Yet it must be remembered that tha grty range fc not so simple as it sounds. There are numerous ultra-cold iind unbecoming tones in grey. Again, all details in\connection with grey must bo the last word in sartorial perfection! Matching grey fabrics- is by no means au easy master, and contrast!? in those curious colourings are equally difficult to arrange. Black, of course, can come to the rescue, but hero again any noto_ of heaviness must be avoided. In fact, if any woman hopes to look her best in grey she must expend timo and money in obtaining the best, from its somewhat cold and colourless yet attractive beauty.
