OVERCROWDED SCHOOLS.
Sir,—May I bring to the notice of those whom it may concern » constructive {ipggestion in connection with thp .crowding in our day schools, Our city and suburban schools aw pack©:! to »n» limit of &*!*"•• capacity-*!"' oavfl dren attending school; one has abi?ut 50. the other 70 fellow, pupils in one classroom. There are about 40 eiBtudents of the training college unabl* to find employment. Why canaot the classes be divided and these teachers' services be utilised ? There is no need for anyone to shy at the expense involved in renting or buying any property in the vicinity of the local schools. *1 could give concrete example!} of • wry suitable buildings being disposed of wry reasonably. The extra expense is negligible when we consider the • waste involved directly and indirectly in-train-ing studimts and then failing to emplclv them. As a teacher "of many yeuri standing, I affirm that, it is-a great-waste .of effort to attempt to teach' mora than 25 to 30 children in one class. Trestle tables and cheap chf irs in «#y shelter with a thorough teacher infinitely better than wonderful buildings Mid furniture and a teachsr labouring nnde# the disability of a too large class and the nervous strain involved thereby.
