COST OF ELECTRIC POWER. < i ■ ENCOURAGING BRITISH TRADE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT, ] / HAMILTON. Tuesday, The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce met last evening, Mr: H. Valder presiding. The question of securing a reduction in the cost of electric power in Hamilton so as to encourage the establishment of secondary industries was discussed. Mr. • A. E. Manning considered that manufacturing concerns could generate their owa power cheaper thai they could buy it from power boards. Even with cheap power he did not think that any gre;»t • secondary industry would be likely to be set up in Hamilton, as it was not & Saflport. It was decided to ascertain the price of, power in other districts, and to mf>et the borough electrical engineer in the matter. The need of concerted action by the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce to induce the public to buy British goods was emphasised by Mr. A. M. 'Bialey. j He considered the service now offered by British manufactarei% equal to that of foreign firms., the only difficulty being in getting the public to demand the British article. He suggested that the Postal Department should be approached with regard to stamping the words, "Bay British goods'* across all kite™ going through the main post offices. It was decided to take the matter up with thfi Associated Chambers of Commerce with a view to taking united action. Mr. H. Valder was appointed to; represent the chamber at & meeting ;,to be held to arrijnge a civic reception an 4 dinner to the ..Hon, J. "A. Young, Minister of Health. '
