WHITTIER'S RECENT TRIUMPH The meeting of five first-class racehorses in the C. F. Orr Stakes at weight-for-ase, at William stown on the 6th inst,. created a great deal of interest {says the Sydney Referee). The Night Patrol and Whittier wound up equal favourites. Heroic being the one next in demand. The Night Patrol, who set.mat to make the pace, had a slight lead into the straight from "Whittier. The latter looked like an jSasy winner at this stage," but Heroic came along with a strong challenj?©, and the pair fighting out an exciting finish. Whittiier beat hi* four-year-old rival by & neck amid great excitement.
