OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WHANGAREI, Monday, The first cricket match to be played ori the reclaimed area rented from the Whangare:i Harbour Board was the competition game between Whangarei and Marsden oil Saturday. Whangarei won by 6 runs. Both teamu batted a man short. The winners made 40 (W. Hollis not out 25, J. Lees 11) and 46 (Hollis 12, Lees 3.1). Marsden responded with 38 (L. East 14) and 42 (H. Thomas 14 not out). The new pitch dead, and until, rolling has consolidated it good scoring cannot be expected. At Portland Onerahi scored a victory on the first inning? over the local players. Onerahi made 166 (C. Hewlett 42,' Fife ,not out 25, Mason 20, Walters 15. E. L. Whimp 15 and S. Mackenzie 11). Portland responded with 91 (Wilson 48). The Whangarei High School team forfeited to Y.M.C.A.
