ANOTHER STRIKE FIASCO.

COMMUNISTS IX PARIS. SPECTACULAR STREET FIGHT. ONE KILLED, MANY ARRESTED. By Telegrapn Press Association— Copyright. (Received 6.5 p.m.) Router—Sun. PARIS. Oct. 12. The general strike called by the Communists proved a, failure. The public services are being maintained and only the workmen employed in building, and the taxi-cab diners appear to be affected. The Government took drastic action to frustrate the strike, Tt mobilised large forces of troops and police, who are now garrisoning the power-stations, gasworks, reservoirs and poht offices in Paris. The Government also brought to Paris a detachment of naval mechanics to ensure the maintenance of the transport, services. It i» not likely thai the railwaymen will strike. Although the strike has been a substantia! failure the Communists profited by the occasion to demonstrate and harangue their followers. This led to sharp scuffles with the police, and the strikers suffered a few casualties at several places. One man was killed at Suresnes, where the gendarmes attacked the strikers, who were trying to force an entrance to a factory. A spectacular fight in the north-east of Paris ended in the arrest of a. Communist, Doriot, who, after kicking a policeman, was roughly handled and required the services of ;; doctor. The official figures show that 100 persons had been arrested in Paris and suburbs up to 8 p.m. yesterday. Sixteen of tlie police v. ere injured. Doriot and another Communist named Caehin were both sentenced in default to 13 months' imprisonment and fined 3000 francs for their activities in connection with the so-called Committee of Action against the war in Morocco. This organisation issued a manifesto in July calling on the French forces to disobey orders and fraternise with the Riffs. Other members of the committee were given lighter sent ones.
