FAST LADY SWIMMER.

MISS STOGKLEY'S PROWESS. AUSTRALIAN TOUR ADVOCATED. "Spectator" writes as foljows in . the Sydney Referee: ; ■ "Australian swimitaors will not be thrilled this season hy international contests because Weissmuller has definitely declined to cross the Pacific, but there is no reason why the ladies should have a blank season. I suggest they should invite Miss Ena Stockley, of Auckland., to show her paco in Sydney and other cities. "Miss Mariechen Wehselau speaks highly of her in the course of a letter from Honolulu just to hand. 'Ena was the fastest swimmer I met,' writes Mariechen, 'and I think I raced them all in Australia and New Zealand.' ''Such a girl is just the type needed to try out all our budding champions. It will be remembered that against Mariechen in Auckland, at tho close of her Australian tour last season, Miss Stockley swam 65 3-5s (for 100 yds), and put up a great fight, being beaten only by a touch. Misjs Stockley's coach, Mr. D, B. Anderson, holds the opinion that she can improve upon this time. If so, she is going to be a wonderful swimmer. "An American journal of recent date contains an illustrated article 'boosting' Miss Stockley. No doubt an enterprising gentleman furnished the details as the result of Miss Wehselau's 'talk' at Honolulu on her return home. Tho writer sug?;ests that she be the guest of America s ady swimmers, but why should Australia let her slip ? Tliei financial side of the question should not cause our ladies' organisations any hafd thinking. There is no lady swimmer in New South Wales capable of breaking 665., so Miss Stockley should provide a capital target for them ahd an incentive to all and sundry to hurry."
