ST. HELIERS BAY NOTES.

ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. THE TAMAKI FIRE BRIGADE. The Tamaki United Association football team lias every reason to feel gratified with the showing of its players this season. The team von the B section of the third grade championship this year and played oft with Northcote for the third grade championship at. Blandford Park on Saturday as a "curtain-raiser" to the big match. Although they lost by the narrow margin of 1 goal to 0, their showing was received with satisfaction by local supporters of the code. Next season the team should do even better. The Tamaki Fire Brigade, which bad a warm friend in Mr. J. W. Carr, the retiring clerk of the Itoad Board, marked t.heir appreciation of his interest in the brigade's affairs by presenting him with a case of pipes. The superintendent of the brigade, Mr. T. W. Scott, has now had 15 years' service with various fire brigades. Tho efficiency of the local brigade is largely duo to his experience and hard work, combined with tho enthusiasm displayed by the men. As the brigade seems unlikely to secure muchneeded accommodation in the near future owing to the defeat of the loan proposals, it 'will continue to work under a severe handicap, but can bo ralied upon to keep itself efficient. The loss of the services of Mr. J. W. Carr, who has been clerk to tho Tamaki Road Board for over 12 years, is deeply regretted by the members of the board and local residents. Mr. Goodman has now taken up the duties formerly carried cut by Mr. Carr.
