POWER FOR IRELAND.
HARNESSING THE SHANNON. GERMANS SECURE CONTRACT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Er,cd. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 15, The Berlin correspondent of tho Daily Telegraph announces that an agreement has been signed under the terms of which Messrs. Siemens and Schuckert undertake fo supply Ireland with electricity from the Shannon. Tho agreement provides for the erection of four generating stations, with an aggregate horse-power of 90,000 and a distribution of 283,000,000 kilowatt hours each year to all parts of tho Free State. A message from Dublin confirms the agreement, and states that the preliminary portion of the scheme involves an ex penditnre of £2,500,00(1 The total cost will bo £5,200,080, for which the whole of the Freo State will be supplied with electric lighting and power.
