Aug. 15 A collision occurred in the Channel last uight in thick fog between the French cargo steamer St. Marc and the French collier Barvillo Tho St. Marc sank immediately. It is fearod that tho entire crew of 13 men wero drowned. Most of them were asleep when the collision happened. The Barvillo ran ashore safely. Tho captain said ho could not see 30yds ahead. In tho same fog urgent warning guns wero fired from tho East Goodwin lightship to prevent the 6COO-ton steamer Aquarius from New York from stranding on tho sandbanks. Tho Aquarius misunderstood the warnings and altered her course so driis.tica.lly that sho crashed into the lightship and seriously damaged her. The lightship is in danger of foundering arid lifeboats have been despatched from l>eal. Tho St. Marc was a slccl screw steamer of 2249 tons. She was built in 1912 at Nantes and belonged to tho Societe Maritimes tie Transports of St. Nazaire. Tho Aquarius is owned by the United States Shipping Board. She was built in 1920 by the G. M. Standifer Construction Corporation, Vancouver.
