GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. CONCLUDING DAY'S RACING. VICTORY FOR FIRST LINE. [BY TELEGQAPII. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] ; CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. After a week of mixed conditions, mostly stormy, it looked as if the worst of the weather was being reserved for to-day. wken the Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National Meeting was concluded at Riccarton. Rain, hail and sleet fell last night, and thero was not much improvement this morning, till nearly eleven o'colck, when the sun shone out, to be followed by another shower later, For the remainder of the day, however, tlio weather remained fine, though very cold. Good fields were again seen in most of the events, and there was some interesting sport. The Redcliffs Handicap of seven furlongs, hack race, provided a hair-raising finish. There were eight Btarters, seven of whom flashed over the lino with heads between them. First Line scored an extremely popular win in the Lincoln Steeplechase. Nukumai won the Sydenham Hurdles very easily from Penury Rose, who put up another good performance under a greatly increased weight. There y;ero two sensations in the last race. . First of all. Hall Mark, after finishing second, was disqualified for short weight, and then Roy Rood (rider of Kuhio) was suspended for three months for crossing at the start. A field of eleven was saddled to content the Sydenham Hurdle Race, for which Nukumai ruled a pronounced favourite, ana he amply justified the confidence reposed in his ability to win. Six furlongn from home Te Kawa was in command, with Lucullent second and Nukumai going well ifl third place. A little further on Te Kawa was beaten and Boomerday ran through fast. Ho led to the straight looking all over a winner, but his condition gave out and he was beaten at the laßt hurdle; rtukumai and 'Frisco Mail jumped it together, just clear of Penury Rose and Lucullent, with Boomerday next. Nukumai went on-to win with ridiculous case by two lengths, while Penury Rose outstayed Frisco Mail to get second by half • a length, then came Lucullent and Boomerday. T . The seven acceptors lined up for the .Ljincoin Steeplechase, Fireblight was a decided favourite, but sho fell at Cuttu, the fii fence on the journey, where luki tan oif. Frenchman and Kipling made the pace from the sart, followed bv Tigerland. First Line and Passin' Through at inton.-als. They raced in this order till six furlongs from home, when Kipling retired, while I'lrat Line moved up fast, taking the lead at the sod wall three fences from home.
