POSITION IN AUSTRALIA. RESUMPTION OF SAILINGS.
Australian and N.Z. Coble Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 9. Tho wharves in tho various Australian ports presented busy scenes yei-terday after the recent idleness. Thirteen 6teamers sailed from Sydney.
The shipping master reports that 15 vessels secured crews on Friday, tho officers signing on 957 men. Strenuous efforts aro being made by tho maritime unions to settlo the dispute with tho Newcastle and Hunter River Company regarding the employment of volunteers.
A message from Brisbano says that by an overwhelming majority a meeting of tho Brisbano branch of tho Watersido Workers' Federation rejected a resolution from tho Stato conference recommending that all tho branches should immediately draw up and put into operation a rotary system for tho supply of labour at each port. A telegram from Melbourne says 12 vessels secured crews on Friday and six left port that day.
