In fact, it's useless and unnecsary. About 12 l>er cent, of all the people introduced lo the famous motion picture star mis-pronounce his name. They insist on putting in the G at its face value. That worries Tom. lie has to stop and explain that the G is excess baggage, orthographicnlly speaking, and is carried along out of deference to old Gaelic traditions. Meighan i 3 an Irish name. In fact it is one of the most Irish of all names, hence the illogical, antiphonetic G. Tom had very little to say in choosing the name originally. It was. in fact, thrust on him. But he is very anxious that it be pronounced with the true Irish accent. Not Mee-gnn. but Moc-han. Or better still, just start to say Me an' you . . . . and leave off the you.
