RECALCITRANT WIVES.
A QUESTION OF TACT. The writing o! a tetter by the solicitors for petitioner in divorce proceedings in which a wife was required to " forthwith, return to her husband/' did not commend itself to Sir. Justice Alpers in a' case which was before him in the Supremo Court at Isow Plymouth the other day. While not doubting the sincerity of the proceedings of petitioner His Honor pointed out that the word " forthwith " was essentially a solicitor's term, aud npt the the word of a husband desiring his wifo's return. "If a neighbour took a farmer's cow away," said the Judge, "it would bo a natural and proper,; thing for tha aggrieved party's solicitor to write demanding ' forthwith ' the return of tha cow, but when you are demanding tha return of your wife, it is better that solicitors keep right out of it. ' A letter from yourself would be much better in such a case thaa a peremptory demand for her return made by a solicitor.";? = '
