ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. CUP-TIE GAMES ON SATURDAY. CHALLENGES FOR BROWN SHIELD. Tho management committee of the Auckland Football Association met last evening, Mr,, Andrew Menzics, presiding. Notification was received from tho New Zealand Council in Wellington that no fewer than live associations had already challenged /for tho Brown Shield and there wei;e, prospects of several other centres doing so. Tho letter asked that flie Auckland centre, which holds tho trophy, should submit dates for these matches immediately. It was decided to reply that as the N.Z.F.A. stipulated that tho local competition for tho Chatham Cup must be finished by July 7 it would be extremely difficult to arrange any Brown Shield matches within the next two months at least. Tho challengers aro Wellington, Bullcr, Mauawatu, South Auckland and North Auckland. On the recommendation of tho Grounds Committee it. was decided to suspend tho twnior championship competition next Saturday and play two cup-tie games at Blandford Park. In the Chatham Cup contest North Shore-meet Northcoto and Ponsonby and Thistle will decido- their Falcon Cup game. Letters were received from too Royal Navy aud tho Northcoto Clubs protesting against, players being asked to pay ground fees on Blandford Park. It was unanim6usly decided to call a special general meeting for Juno 10, when tho matter' will be thoroughly gone into with representatives of all clubs present. Speaking on behalf of tho Blandford Park Committee, the chairman stated tho financial position did not permit of the remission' Of ground fees for this season at least. . A Ictt-er from tho newly-formed association at Thames asked if the' Auckland centre could help to foster the game m tho goldfields district by sending teams to play at Thames during the season. Tho matter was referred to the grounds com-' mittee. . Permission was granted to the Ivoyal Navy Club to play a return match with Pukemiro at the Calliope Dock ground on Juno 6. / It was understood that this fixture will not prevent the Navy also fulfilling their engagements in the local competitions. In reply, to North Auckland's request ihat a representative team he sent to Whangarei to play a return match tcr the Brown Shield game, it was resolved to endeavour to do so if time permitted at the end of the season. Very encouraging reports were received from Huntly regarding the of the game there among the schoolboys. Iho growth of the code was largely attributed to the visits of boys' representative teams from Auckland. Mr. R. Harrison was authorised to take a representative boys eleven on tour again as soon as the opportunity offered, travelling expenses to be paid by the association. Complying with a request from the Referees' Association, it was decided that all appointments of refereps be made by the crounds' committee, a list ot names of tho men available for each Saturday to bo supplied early in the week. As a ' recognition of valuable services rendered in connection with the establishment of Blandford Park, Messrs. A. Menzies and L. C. H. Dawson were presented with souvenirs of the opening day. These took the form of framed jvmoramic photographs of the ground, during the progress of the match between Auckland and Waikato. Both gentlemen suitably responded. It was reported that Mr. J. Hodge had donated a trophy for competition among the. boys' teams. It is to be called the St. Andrew trophy and will bo awarded each year to the runners-up in the Primary /. schools' competition.
