LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS.
THE CITY MAYORALTY. MR. BAILDON NOMINATED. POSITION IN THE COUNCIL. There are now two candidates definitely in the field for the Auckland Mayoralty. The Deputy-Mayor, Mr. George Baildon, was nominated yesterday by Sir Edwin Mitchelson, a former Mayor of tho city, Mr. John Court, for many years a member of the City Council and at ono time-Deputy-Mayor, and Mr. R. T. Warnock, a former Mayor of Grey Lynn, an office which Mr, Baildon at one time held. Mr. Harold Schmidt has already been nominated. Sixteen members of tho present City Council are seeking re-election, and three are definitely "retiring. The latter aro Messrs. G. R. Hutchinson, chairman of tho Tramways Committee, C. H. Furness and A. E. Lawry. Tho seat formerly held by Mr. C. G. Macindoe has been vacant for some months, as tho result of his retirement. The remaining seat :s that held by Mr. Baildon. Nominations for seats on the council received yesterday were those of Miss Ellen Melville and Messrs. John Furness and Harold Cloment Jones. Earlier nominations wero Messrs, J, A". C. All am and A. A. Troup. The city voters elect five members of the Auckland Hospital Board, and yesterday tho nomination of Mr. William Wallace, chairman of tho board, was lodged. Mr. Wallace has also been a member of the Auckland Harbour Board for some years, but will not seek re-election to that body, as ho proposes to devote his energies to tho work .of tho Hospital Board. Mr. John Furness has also been nominated for a seat on the Hosptal Board. At Devonport, Mr. H. S. W. King, who formerly held tho position of Mayor, has announced that ho will be a candidate for that office at the forthcoming election. The Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. E. H. Potter, and the 12 sitting members of the council were nominated yesterday, these being tho only nominations so far received. The Progressive Citizens' Association has selected tho following as its ticket for the City Council Miss Melville, Messrs. J. A. C. Allum, M. J. Bennett, S. L Crookes, J. Dempsey, J. Donald, A. J. Entrican, J. W. Hardloy, G. Knight, J. B. Paterson, J. Robertson, A. Thompson, J. A. Warnock (sitting councillors), L. A. Eady, C. H. Jones, M. J. Coyle, G. Brownlee, and others to be selected. Harbour Board: Messrs. E. W. Inder, J. B. Johnston, W. A. Phillips, W. H. Murray. Hospital Board Mrs. A. Kidd, Messrs. W. Wallace, J. Dempsey, G. Knight, A. Thompson. THE WELLINGTON MAYORALTY. SOLUTION OF A DIFFICULTY. [BY TELEGRAM. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Friday. The difficulty in regard to the Mayoral election contest in Wellngton was happily solved to-night, and the number of candidates has been reduced to two. The services of Mr. A. R. Atkinson were secured as arbitrator, Mr. D. G. Clark, Commissioner of Taxes, having de- ! clined the task. A verdict was given in favour of Mr. Norwood. Mr. Forsyth now withdraws from; the Mayoralty contest. Mr. Norwood becomes the citizens' candidate and there, will be a straight out fight with the Labour nominee, Mr. C. H. Chapman, and the feeling is Strong that Labour will now be defeated, although Mr. Chapman commands a big following. GONTEST AT DARGAVILLE. TWO CANDIDATES PROBABLE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DARGAVILLE, Friday., Mr. A. C. Paul, a member of the Borough Council, was nominated for the Mayoralty of Dargaville yesterday. He has been a councillor for eight years and is the bldest sitting member. Mr. F. A. Jones will also be nominated for tho Mayoralty.
