TO CLEAR THE COMPLEXION.
A blooming skin is every girl's birthright, but sadly often dirt and a lack of fresh air—and the use of too many cheap cosmetics —prevent it (states a London specialist). Yet, like everything else, the most obstinately sallow and muddy skin will yield to intelligent and regular treatment —not spasmodic efforts, mind! First of all, remember that no external treatment is any good unless your digestion is working perfectly. Daily exercise and a couple of oranges a day will work wonders. Oranges have marvellous healthgiving and blood-clearing properties—as the moyenage beauties well knew. And when you have done all you can in a natural way to secure a normally-good complexion, then only may you think of enhancing it by other means. For a muddy skin, afflicted with those horrors called " blackheads," more drastic treatment is necessary than the ordinarv cleansing with cream. Steam it in this way. Rub well into the face an ointment composed of fifty grammes of salicylic acid and fifty grammes of vaselin. * This softens the hard secretions which form acne. Then bend over a large basin of boiling water, wrapping your head and shoulders in a big towel to keep the steam in, and remain till the face perspires freely. Wipe gently with a perfectly clean linen rag, and repeat the process every week till the skin is cleared. Dash cold water on the face afterwards, to clooe the relaxed pores.
.And another point: Never keep a face flannel (which should really be a square of flannel, not a shop one), longer than two months, and boil all flannels once a week. Have two face flannels, one for washing and one for rinsing the face. And always rinse your faco in clean water after"soaping it. If you don't follow rules such as these you will never get rid of acne—for acno is simply dirt, neither moro nor less.
