The society is making a further appeal to women to refrain from wearing tho feathers of egrets, herons, birds of paradise, and other rare birds, tho importation of whose plumage was prohibited in the Act of 1921, .In spite of tho vigilance of the Customs authorities, it is said that these contraband goods arc still being smuggled into the country. The speakers included the Duchess of Somerset, Mrs. Fox Pitt, and Dr. Lyttelbon. Mrs. Fox Pitt, who has lately come from Paris, said there is a craze there for smart women to be dressed from head to foot in paradise plumes; one tlres.s that she had seen had 127 stuffed humming birds all over it.
