MISS DOROTHY DO.

Miss Dorothy Do was a sweet little maid— Wh/it over they ordered, sho always obeyed, Sho wi»p not in tho least like other small girls. She topk cat a of her frocks, and looked after her curls, Sho walked on her tip.toes, as still as a nionpc, Her voice it could never bo heard in the houpe, And whro in her bedroom old Nurse took a peep, This swcot little lady was always asleep. Sho never was naughty, and climbed out of beel, Nor banged her pet doll in a rage on the hc^d. Nor fell down and frightened old Nurse into fits, Nor smashed all the toys sho loved best into bits. Sho bated the sight of a chocolate or calic, But cod liver oil she would willingly take. As time passed along she grew so full of grace, That they packed her at last in a tiny glass case, And thjther tho neighbouring children would throng, To gaze on a maiden who couldn't do wrongYet in spite of her goodness, her grace, and her'lovo Tbore wore some of her ciders who didn't approve— For a girl who was even far better than cold Deprived them of any occasion to scold. And part of the pleasure with children wo know Is bringing them up in tho way they should goThus if they make progress without any teaching. Its hard on those grown-ups who dearly love preaching, So when children seem naughty arid knock things about, They're not really naughty of that thnro's no doubt, But they're kind little creatures with hearts as good as gold, And they know how it pleases their elders to scold, So they scream, and they yell, and they kick with their feet To give tho dear, grown-ups a real Sunday treat. For life would bo far too insipid and slow If all little girls were liko Dorothy Do.
