ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
OPENING OF THE SEASON. THIS AFTERNOON'S GAMES. This afternoon the curtain will be rung up on the 1925 Soccer season in Auckland, and some very fine contests aro expected to eventuate. Chief interest centres in the match between Thistle and Royal Navy, which has been given pride of place beforo the grandstand at Victoria Park. Tho Naval team is a well-balanced eleven, composed of fast and clever exponents of tho code, who are in the pink of condition. The Thistle side contains many representative players, whose prowess is well-known to tho Auckland public. An excellent exposition is assured, and if the weather is reasonably fine there should be a big attendance of spectators. On an adjoining ground at Victoria Park the redoubtable Ponsonby team will try conclusions with Northcote. Both clubs have a good percentage of new players from the Old Country, and their gamo is also attracting a great deal of attention. At Devonport two senior matches will fake place. Tho local ' eleven, North Shore, is pitted against V.M.C.A., and Watersidcrs will oppose Hellaby's. At the various grounds the junior competitions in the second, third, and fourth divisions will be commenced.
