BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH.
IMPROVEMENT OF STREETS. The Birkenhead Borough Council met last night. The Mayor, Mr. E. C. Walton, presided, and there' were also present, Messrs. E. G. Skeates, A. Hadfield, A. E. Wood, L. 11. L. Moller, F. A. Gilpin, W. Worthingt-on, T. Fariell and P. H. Hayward. The Mayor stated the first work to be undertaken in connection with the loan for bituminising various streets was now in full progress, and the material was coming to hand. Glenfield Road had been scarified from Pupuke Road to Onowa Road, and metalling was proceed--4 contract was lot for grading the entrance to Akarana Street and forming the road 12ft wide from the old scout shed site to Mr. Lanigati's property. The analysis of the water supply was stated to bo satisfactory. Four building permits were issued. Permission was given to take up a street collection on February 27, in aid of the Hospital Patients' Benevolent Fund.
