OUTINGS FOR CHILDREN.
SUGGESTION TO MOTORISTS, TONE OF A LETTER CRITICISED Soma exception to the tone of a letter was taken by two members of tho council of the Auckland Automobile Association last evening, when consideration was being given to a communication from the secretary of tho Auckland Rotary Club, Mr. A. J. Hutchinson, on the subject of outings for crippled children. The writer mentioned that it had been the custom of the Rotary Club to take the crippled children at the Auckland Hospital for outings at certain intervals and that he thought it was time the Automobile Association did something on similar linos. He suggested that the secretary of the association should obtain the support of the council in this direction. Mr. G. W. Hutchisoij, secretary of tho Automobile Association, said that, although he was a member of the Rotary Club, ho was bound to point out that charitable activities, such as those specifically mentioned in the letter, were part of the objects of the Rotary Club, whereas they were only courtesy obligations to the association.
Mr. G. M. White approved the suggestion, but said he disliked the brusque note of the letter. He pointed out that, in any case, it was the Automobile Association which had inaugurated motorcar outings for the crippled children. The tone of the letter was also taken exception to by another member. Mr. Hutchison explained that the letter was addressed to him personally. A Member: Well, it might have been worded more obligingly.
It was decided to accept the suggestion contained in the letter and arrange an outing for ths children.
