At a gathering of the members of tho Marlborough Service Association, Lieut. - Colonel Avery, Quartermaster-General, New Zealand Defence Force, delivered an interesting lecture, in which he described the scheme which was being provided for the mobilisation of the troops in wartime.
Profiting by the experience gained in the days of fevored activity in 1914, the Defence Department was taking steps to have a proper plau of mobilisation prepared, said the lecturer. Errors had been committed, inefficiencies exposed and difficulties had cropped up in the last war. The department was taking steps to guard against a recurrence ot such obstructions to rapid mobilisation and was putting into book form, as i'< ■were, a carefully planned scheme which could be set in operation instantly. Should necessity arise for the prompt and [expeditious mobilisation of the country's [troops there would be a clearly defined | path to follow.
The mobilisation would comprise three distinct stages, the preliminary warning, registration and finally the collection of the men and putting them into training..
