BUTTER-FAT PAYMENTS.
REASON FOR REDUCTION.
The reduction in the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Company's payment from Is 5d to Is for April was discussed at a meeting of Tauhei suppliers last week. The chairman, Mr. H. J: Valentine, said a good deal of dissatisfaction had been caused by such a drastic cut. Other speakers referred to the seriousness of such a reduction in the suppliers' income, and asked tho company's representatives for an explanation. In reply, Mr. Missen said the company had always followed the policy of selling its produce on consignment, so.that it received the full market value of its goods, according to supply and demand on the Home market. The company was opposed to selling for cash f.o.b. By selling on consignment it had shown a better return over an •; extended period than concerns which had sold direct. Owing, to the severe drop in the prices on the Home market the company had been obliged to curtail its advance payments. An assurance was given by Mr. Clarke that the directors. had been very reluctant to make the reduction.
