SPORTS AT SURFDALE.

i SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The. Surf Welfare and < Progressive League held a sports gathering: last Saturday -at Surf dale. Favoured -by beautiful weather, a very enjoyable day was spent. A plain and fancy, dress ball, .held in the hall in the evening:, was attended by 150 couples. Miss N. Etheridge took firs* prize for lady's fancy costume, arid Miss O. McFarlane second. Mr.' C. Johnston, as Sambo, was first for men, and Mr. W. Brown second. The following are the results of the sports events:—Open handicap 1 mile: W. A. Dawkins. 1; J. Hooper. "3; W. A. Brown, 3.. Single ladies' race: MiaJ Lee, 1; Miss New,, 2; Miss White. 3. Mar ried ladies: Mrs. Davis, 1; Mrs. Hill. 2; Mrs. Williams, 3. Married men: Mr. Prmjr, 1; Mr. Johnson, 2: lit. Brown. 3. Tug a. war: Married men beat the single men.
