BURNED TO DEATH.
EXPLOSION OF BENZINE. WOMAN'S FATAL MISTAKE. TRAGEDY IN WASH-HOUSE. ; [BY TELEGBAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Tuesday. A distressing fatality, resulting in the I death from burns of Mrs. Violet May j King, aged 35, wife of Mr. G. King, j occurred at Bell Block, near New Ply- ; mouth, yesterday morning. I Mrs. King was lighting a fire under j the copper in the wash-house, and, exI periencing difficulty in the operation, l evidently attempted to encourage a blaze ! by pouring on what she thought to be ' kerosene, but which was benzine, conj tained in a tin standing near-by. A J terrific explosion occurred, blowing a hole j in the tin, and filling the wash-house with i flames. Mr. King was working in the field : some distance away. He rushed to tha ; scene and attempted by means of I blankets to smother the flames in which ' Mrs.* King was ■ shrouded'. j A doctor was summoned, and ordered ! Mrs. King's removal to the Now PlyI mouth Public Hospital, where she died lin the afternoon. She leaves a family ' of about six children, the youngest of I whom is about two years old.
