HIGH WINDS AT ROTORUA.
PUBLIC GARDENS DAMAGED: [Bt TEIiEGBAFH. — : COBBESPONTJBNT. ■ROTORUA. Wednesday. - The barometer fell fin. vesterdav afternoon, and before midnight it was blowing a howling gale. A number of trees were uprooted and windows were blown in. Some chimneys were dislodged. • The ; Taupo-Napier road - is reported to he blocked. In the Government Gardens there is a scene of desolation. The flower-beds > have been destroyed and shrubs and trees uprooted. The wind commenced to blow from the south-west and veered to the east. The barometer touched 28.90. No rain accompanied the gale, but there was vivid lightning.
