GIFTS TO A HOSPITAL.
LADY'S GENEROSITY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ASHBURTON, Monday. A gift of £1000 to the Ashburton Public Hospital recalls the characteristic generosity of the donor. Miss Jane Chalmers, This donation brings her total hospital benefactions up to £5000 within two years, the previous gifts being £3000 for the new women's ward and £1000 for the new operating theatre. The latest gift permits of the completion of the women's ward, the cost of which has exceeded the estimate. Miss Chalmers is a representative of a pioneer Canterbury wheatgrowing family, and is still residing at the original homestead, established in the early days by her late uncle.
