DROWNED IN A LAKE.
YOUNG MAN'S FATAL SWIM. SINKS BEFORE WIFE'S EYES. ACCIDENT NEAR ROTORUA. [Bit TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTOBtJA, Monday. News was received in Rotortta to-day of a drowning accident on Lake Rotehu. Mr. George Irving McKnight, aged 25, who was employed on Messrs. Litcli enstein's and Arnoldsen's farm, near Rotoiti, together with his wife, went out in a boat on the lake. On nearing the shore, on their] return, deceased spid, "Pull to shore; I will swim." Mr. McKnight went over the side of the boat, and shortly afterwards his Trife heard a call for help. She turned the boat round to give assistance, but although she threw a rope to her husband, he sank before her eyes and was drowned.
The body was recovered after considerable difficulty. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
