STOCKS AND SHARES.

The tone o£ the Auckland sharemarket was unchanged yesterday, investment stocks being in fair demand. In Government securities New Zealand War Loans, 1938 and 1939, were inquired for at £96 12s 6d, holders not quoting. Soldiers' bonds were sought at £101 Ss without response. In ordinary debenture issues New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., changed hands at 21s 6d, late buyers offering 2ls 3d, sellers 21s 9d. In banks there wan a sale of Union oi! Australia at £14 12s 6d, with further inquiry at £14 lis 6d, sellers £14 13s 6d. New Zealands, sought at 525, were quoted at 52s Gd and New South Wales were quoted at £42. In insurances New Zealands, available at 30s Bd, had inquiry at 30s 3d. South British, wanted at 39s 6d, had sellers at 408 6d. In finance lines business was done in New Zealand Loan and Mercantile at £85 10s, with late inquiry at £84. In. shipping Devonport Steam Ferry had buyers at 25s 6d, sellers 26s 8d ; HuddartParkers, buyers 42s 6d, sellers 435; P. and O. Deferred Stock, buyers £300, sellers £315. In miscellaneous lines there were sales of Wilsons Cement, at 31s 3d. with further offers tit the same figure, sellers 31s 6d. In mining Waihis sold at 325, late buyers offering 31» 9d, sellers 325. Waihi Grand Junctions changed hands at 6s 3d,, with farther buying offers at 6a 2d, sellers 6s 6d.
