TE KUITI TOURNAMENT. IB* TELEGRAPH.—OWN COHHESPONDiINT ] TE KOTTT. Monday. A tournament promoted by the Te Kuiti Boxing Association was held on Saturday evening. Disappointment wn« felt at the absence of Jim . Smith,. North Island amateur champion light-weight,. who was seised with a sudden attack of sciatica and could not fulfil his engagement with MpKnight (Hamilton). The programme consisted of a number of four-round bouts (till weights), the results being as foHows: — _ , < Forbes v. Frsei (four rounds).— won on points Pratt beat Sorenson: Smith (Owharigo) beat Fraei (To Kuiti); Meehan (Paeroa) beat Wolf (Auckland); McNeil (Auckland) beat Jeffcott <Te Kuiti); Bishara (Taumtirunui) beat Wallace (Te KuHi). Forljes and Pratt were awarded gold medals. The star attraction was a six-rounds no-decision exhibition bout • between MeKnight 'Hamilton) and Bucklev (Auckland). Buckley took the ring in place of Smith. Although Buckley had not trained for this fight, he showed up as a clever boxer, standing his ground well with his more experienced opponent. Both men were content to box and the exhibition was a clever ,one throughout. TOURNAMENT AT FRANKTON. (BE :rELEG»APH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. HAMILTON. Monday. The Frankton Boxing Association's second tournament of the season was held at Frankton on Saturday evening. The standard of boxing: was good, some interesting bouts being witnessed. Mr. A. Pooley acted as referee. Solomon (Frankton), 10.0, defeated Hynson (Hamilton), 9.6, in i special lightweight match. Hynson secured the verdict on a technical knock-out. In the featherweight contest, Broadfoot (Waihi), 9.3, who was matched against Hamilton (Frankton). 9.0. won tho bout, his opponent being disqualified for holding in the third round. Broadfoot had previously been warned for using the open hand. The Waihi boy showed himself a very snappy hitter, able to deliver a solid punch. A draw resulted in the flyweight contest, in which Chaplin (Frankton), 7.10. was matched against Sanders (Ngaruawahia), 7.10, The decision was reached in the third round, and was 0, fair estimate of the boxers' merits. S. Crompton (Frankton), 10.0, secured the verdict against R. Clarke (WaHhi), 10.3, in a special bout of four two-minute rouafds. There were several very heavy exchanges, both men swinging in very willing work. Crompton did some effective work at close quarters. The meeting of the lightweights, ArmiH>i«w (fjuckland), 10.0. arid Hocsie (Ngaruawahia), 9.11, over six two-minute rounds, was the principal attraction of the evening. The Aucklarder, who bn.d an unbeaten record. had an advantage over Haggie in bo<h height and reach, but Hacgie worried the Aucklander constantlv in the fourth round. More aggressive work was seen in the fifth round, honours being evenly divided, while the final round once more resulted in the t ]p,.,-Qion Koing to Hafffie. , Bell iNijaruawahia), 10.0. defeated College (Wiihi). 9G. in the ooen lierhtweight competition, while in the Bell, who was opposed by Bennett (Frankton), 9.6, secured a wmll-received decision. It was announced that N. VernalJ. who put ur> such a close contest with Nelson KfoTCnigM. was prepared to meet anv jiffhtweight in the Dominion in a professional contest, Tinder the Frankton Association. The ch<*llens<? was accented on, behalf of VoKnieh' who is also becoming a profe*--ional. When the pair met last month they fought to a draw '
