NEW WIRELESS RECORD.
ENGLAND TO AUCKLAND. LOCAL AMATEUR'S CLAIM. A new 'ong-distance record in amateur wireless is . claimed by Mr. L. Spackman, of Auckland. Listening-in at 8 - o'clock yesterday morning he intercepted the following message: " G.N. QRU, G SAU," which in the language of the wireless operator means "Good-night, I have nothing m<*re for you. Great Britain amateur station SAIL" Mr. Spackman states that he feels positive of the identity of the station as that of an English amateur. The alternating current ripple was perfectly distinct.. SAU is given as the call letters of Mr. W. H. Goodman, 94, Addison Road, Holland Park, W. 14. The 8 a.m. local time corresponded to 8.30 p.m. in England on Sunday, the only evening on which English amateurs are allowed to transmit.
M'\ Spackman will write to SAU for confirmation and should the reception be verified, a world's record has indeed been established. A single valve in conjunction with the vJockaday circuit .was used. With this arrangement and on© low frequency stage American broadcast has been heard excellently at IAC. Mr. Spademan's station. Mr. Spackman's brother telegraphs ,from Napier that on, Sunday afternoon he heard the broadcast from 2AIM, New Jersey, U.S.A., on a single, valve. The call letters were identified with certainty as they were sent out in the Morse code
