HIGHER SUGAR PRICES.

WHOLESALE RATES RAISED,

INCREASE OF £l 10s A TOtf,

OPERATION FROM TO-DAY,

An increase of £1 10s a ton in th« wholesale price of sugar is' announced hv the Colonial Sugar Refining Company.. The increase, which will operate front to-day will apply to ail grades of raw" and refined sugar.

The new wholesale rates for sugar de« livercd in Auckland will he as follows:— Brewers' crystals, £32 10s a ton; No* IA, fine grain, and No. 1, coarse grain £31 ; No. 2, soft. £30 10; No. 3. yellow* £29 10s. The price for supplies to other parts of the Dominion is £1 10s a ton less in each grade.

It is elso announced that/ the price of tablet sugar, both bulk and cartons, was increased in Sydney by £1 10s a ton from last Thursday.

When the Government control of the Dominion's sugar supplies ceased at the end of August, a circular issued to merchants by the company stated that unless there was a rtcovery from the weakness in the sugar market of tho east, a reduction in the selling prices might he expected about the end of September.
