RAILWAYMAN'S WAGES.
PROPOSAL FOR REDUCTION.
SUM OF £4,000,000 ANNUALLY.

The combined railway companies of Britain have submitted to the National Wagcfl Board a proposal to reduce wages to the extent of £4,000,000 annually. Mr. Glover, of the London Midland and Scottish Company, declared they were not at present seeking to reduce wages on a purely commercial standard. If they did it would involve reductions totalling £37,000,000. They might later have to seek this.
