PROCURATION FEES.
Sir, — my experience, and notwithstanding what the president of the Law Society says, it is not only the common practice to"charge the procuration fee, but the. usual practice of all firms. Can the president name the exception? One Who Knows.
Sir, —Two years ago the mortgage on my farm came due, and although it was protected by the moratorium, I decided to renew it, and accordingly wrote the mortgagees. The reply was that they were quite willing to renew it providing the interest was raised to 6£ per cent, (it was previously 6 per cent.), and that I paid their lawyers a procuration fee of 1 per cent. Of course I protested, as also, did my solicitor, against this outrageous charge, but it was of no avail. I had to pay the fee. It is surely time that some move was made to stop this sort of thing. Bitten.
