GOLDEN WEDDING.
MR. AND MRS; J. ©COMBES.
The golden wedding of Mr. and Mri. J. Coombes, of Paeroa, late of Thames, was celebrated recently at the residence of their daughter, Mrs. G. Gilmour, of Hamilton.- "."Y,.; : v.;T" Mr. Coombes is one of the Dominion's pioneer colonists, having • been born ,in Auckland in 1848. In 1861, he went to the West Coast .and to ; Otago, and after ,. remaining in the South for some years, returned to Thames, and . was married there in 1873. He m»de his home in Taranaki for ten y£ars, and afterwards went to Paeroa. Mr. and Mrs. Coombes had a family of ten childrenthree sons and seven daughters—all of ; whom are married. There are now 39 grandchildren.. '• ■•- -<-";- ..v.;:*' -■:■.- .■:•;' ■ ■■'•■ :v-Vj The golden wedding gathering was «i very happy affair the eldest son, Mr. P* Coombes, presenting the 'vide and bridegroom with a cheque from the family. The wedding cake was a present from Mr. William Smith, an old family friend.
