THE MANUKAU ROAD.
C3TY PORTIONS RENAMED.
PARNELL ROAD AND BROADWAY.
The City Council last evening decided to change the name of certain portions of Manukau Road, . lying within its boundaries. The necessity . for v these changes was brought under the notice of the council by a number of, petitioners, who asked that the portion of Manukau Road. from Broadway. Newmarket, to the intersection of Great South Road and St. Mark's Road, be named* "Broadway," in : continuation of Broadway, ; Newmarket. It ; was also suggested that in view of the difficulty of finding places On Manukau Road, the portion in Parr.oll should be called "Parnell Road," and that shops and dwellings be . numbered. The city engineer, while pointing put that there might be some confusion between Broadway, Newmarket, and Broadway, Epsom cr Remuera, as it might hereafter be called, said that Manukau Road was really too long to bear one name, and from that standpoint he thought the proposals in the right direction. The matter was considered by the Legal and Finance Committee, which "recommended to the council last evening thai: the portion' of Manukau Road from Selwyn Terrace, Parnell,. to the northern boundary of Newmarket Borough, be renamed ''Parnell Road," and that the section from Newmarket to Great: South Road be renamed "Broadway."
