ALLEGATIONS OF FRAUDS.

OBTAINING OF CREDIT. UNDISCHARGED BANKRUPT. Allegations of having obtained credit by fraud by incurring debts totalling £168 9s were made against Alfred Crbssey or Crosby, aged 56, in the Police Court yesterday before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M. Nine charges were laid, the debts incurred in each, case ranging from £3 to £31 15s. Accused was further charged that, being an undischarged bankrupt, he obtained credit for sums of £31 15s, £27 18s, £22 10s, and £21 13s 6d, without disclosing . that ho was an undischarged bankrupt. In each of the nine charges quantities of fruit were obtained from fruitgrowers near Auckland. S. H. Green, orchardist. of Dairy Plat, said that accused went to him and.said he was a fruit dealer, and had agencies in the Waiksto and King Country. He said he wanted* to secure-all the Gravenstern apples that witness had, and made an offer of, 5s a case. The offer was agreed to, and 127 cases of apples were forward-ed to accused, addressed care of a firm of Auckland auctioneers, through whom payment was to be made. No xiyment had been received.- After the apples had been forwarded, he found that accused had taken delivery of 20 cases, the remainder being left at the markets without instructions from accused for salt?. Witness arranged' with the auctioneers for the sale of the remaining apples. Accused never mentioned that he was an undischarged banknipt. * H. G. Cutler, orchardist, said that accused told him he would take -ill the peaches that wit;.avs had, as he wanted to sell them at the Ngaruawahia Regatta. Accused said be had two shops, one at Taumarunui and the other at Te Kuiti. Nothing had been paid. Similar evidence was given by other fruitgrowers. In some cases accused said he had shops at Taumarunui and Te Kuiti. and in one instance he described himself as a fruit merchant in a big way and financially all right. Partial payments had been made to several growers. . The case was adjourned till next Thursday. -...."■'
