'Mrs. Wilson was the young- ;,'■ est daughter of. the late Mr. James C. Hill, who, with his .wife, arrived in Auck- V ; ; fend by the ship Westminster in 1843. / The late Mrs. Wilson was bom six years later at Hillsboro, near Onehnnga. Heir father was a prominent figure in public life in ;the; early/days" of Auckland, and * was a member. of the Provincial CounciL He brought here;"the"district warrant for : Lodge 2, Royal Albert, of the Orange "•, '. Order, /and, he was also a s member' of ' Lodge 348, I.C, Freemasons. Various streets in Hillsboro ni>w bear the names of different, members of Mr. Hill's family. : "'.' Mrs. Wilson had seen Auckland grow from a u village to its present size, and ' she was wont to recount many interesting ;: details -of■••■her girlhood days. The inter- ' '■ ment took place -at Hillsboro Cemetery. . - Mrs. Wilson leaves One son and three • daughters. The son is Mr. L. H e Wilson, «■' manager of the Hippodrome Theatre, and the daughters are Miss Wilson, of- the '■■'■•" telephone exchange, Miss E. R. Wilson, until recently in the service of the Education . Board, and Miss „ Ivy Wilson.... MR. THOMAS McCARTHY. An old colonist, Mr. Thomas McCarthy, died at his i residence, Green Lane, in h'is 78th year. Mr. McCarthy, who was bom =1 v; m Ireland, was brought- to New Zealand '' by his parents as an infant. On reaching manhood he engaged in farming first at i Bombay and afterwards at Papakura, re- ' : siding in the latter district for 27 years. ' He was an enthusiastic bowler. Mr. McCarthy,; who gained the respect of all with whom he came in contact, is sur- : '■; vived by.three sons anc'! three daughters.
