HALF-YEAR'S REVENUE.
DEPARTMENT'S ESTIMATES.
POSTAGE 'LESS BY £125,000.

The expected loss of postal revenue for the current half-year ,by the reversion to penny postage will be £126,000; but the increase in the telephone charges (which it is hoped will make that branch self-supporting) will be a set-off. , Education expenditure shows an increase of £99,347., The cost per head is now £2 8s lid, against £1 4s 6d ten, years ago. Since 1918-19 a sum of £1,698,304 has been devoted to increased school accommodation. ■■-. This , year an extra sum of £100,000 has been transferred to building purposes out of the accumulated surplus. ..','•
