Mr. S. S. Allen, Morrinsville, wrote that if the council would form a special rating area and metal the whole road near his property he ; would be prepared to.be rated. Cowan, the council was asked to join in urging the Public Works Department to make a grant- of £300 for shingling .Tahuna Road. The request was agreed to. In a letter to the Tahuna branch of the Farmers' Union, explaining why the application- for assistance in snagging the upper reaches of the Piako River was not sent to the: Minister for Lands, the clerk stated that he could find no trace in the minutes of the council's approval of the scheme. -He,' however, believed that the matter was introduced by Mr. Whitechurch at a special meeting, but as there was no record, he could not make a definite statement. The engineer's estimates were approved at a special meeting, and the chairman, two councillors, and the , engineer went to Wellington. Ho (the clerk) did not trouble any further about the request, as he thought that it would be dealt with in Wellington. The engineer said they thought that the clerk was writing direct about the subject. . ' The Hon. R. F. Bollard wrote advising that a special report was being obtained on a request that a i. tor A. subsidy be granted for damage works required in connection with, the P.ako River dredeins.and the Tahuna landing.
