In' - the final of the News of ; the , World £750 professional tournament at Walton Heath, Wilson, of Crohamhurst, who had created a sensation on the previous day by defeating " Abe "Mitchell, won from Ren ouf,/ the Manchester veteran, 4 tip and 2 to play.
A feature of the play was Wilson's astounding putting. He was frequently beaten to "the green, but ho invariably ran his ball; down to win. Ho -was seven up on the morning round, ; after which his long game went to nieces, bub his putting saved him.' Although outclassed in the,first round, Reriouf's was a splendid : failure. ;Ho made a gallant fight in. the afternoon, and was only baffled by the staggering accuracy ;• of Wilson's play on , the greens.
