The tenuis season was formally opened on Saturday afternoon, when 'there was; a large assembly at the Victoria Park courts. Th» club president. Mr. :R. A. Coyne, referred to the increased interest in ■ the. game and the provision of additional courts, and then called upon Miss Irwin, last year's winner of the ladies' championship, to hit/the first ball over the net. All the courts were occupied throughout (the afternoon.
