CHINESE SHOPS ENTERED.
ARREST OF A SUSPECT.

Cases of burglary , and attempted safebreaking have been fairly numerous in the city recently, culminating on Sunday night with a series of burglaries at Chinese premises in Hobson and Victoria Streets. In one case a fruiterer in Victoria Street, Chun Kee, discovered that his front door had been forced and about £4 extracted from the cash drawer. While in these promises it appears that tho burglar broke a window at the rear of the adjoining building, occupied by Sun Leo, a Chinese launderer. Nothing, however,' was reported missing from the latter premises, A third entry was made the same evening, in this case to Song Lee's laundry in Hobson Street, where soma small change was stolen , Following upon these events, there appeared in the Police Court' yesterday, Arthur Hamilton, aged 51, charged with being in possession.of a quantity of gelignite, fuses and detonators. He was further charged with breaking and entering the laundry ot Song Lee, in Hobson Street, on Sunday, and stealing a quantity of change. A remand was granted for a •week. Bail was fixed at £500, but it was not forthcoming. * _______
