Yorkshire, 195 and 332 for six wickets, declared (Rhodes 102), beat Essex, 96 and 151. Robinson took four wickets for 27 runs, and four for 22. Hampshire, 206 and 326 for six (Mead 58 and 80, not out), beat Notts, 147 and 380 (Whysall 101). Kennedy took four wickets for 52, and six for 27. Sussex, 205 and 147, beat Gloucester, 137 and 168. In Sussex's second inning 3 Smith dismissed six out of the first seven batsmen, stumping two and catching four. •", Surrey, 436 for eight (Hobbs 104), and 84 for three, drew with Lancashire, 185 and 444. Ernest Tyldesley's . magnificent innings for 236, rescued Lancashire from an apparently hopeless position.
