LARRIKINISM IN SUBURBS
MORE POLICE SUPERVISION.
DEMAND BY LOCAL BODIES.
The need for more police supervision for the borough of Mount Albert was mentioned at the meeting of the Borough Council on Tuesday evening by Mr. H. A. Miles, who drew attention to the disquieting reports in the press regarding the molesting of women after dark. Various acts of, larrikinism in different parts of the borough were also referred to. including a gross act of sacrilege committed by some youths who had broken into a church. Complaint 'had also been made of stone throwing on the roofs of residences to the disturbance and annoyance of invalid inmates. . It was resolved that the superintendent of police be written to. requesting that more adequate police supervision be provided. ~.,• A recent outbreak of larrikinism in tho One Tree Hill district, reported to the Road Board by its engineer last evening, v/a-j the subject of strong comment from the chairman and members. The engineer stated that the name plates of a number of streets in the Wapiti area had recently been torn down, some being taken away and others destroyed. " I thought the boys were an orderly lot out here," remarked the chairman, 'but evidently there are larrikins in the district." Members agreed that the police surveillance of One Tree Hill was not all it might be, and it • was decided that the matter should be reported to the police, with a request that a little more attention bo paid to the district.
