» • , PERMITS FOR BUILDINGS. The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening/ The Mayor, Mr. E. C. Walton, presided, and there were also present Messrs. A. Hadfield, L. R. L. Moller, F. A. Gilpin, W. Worthington, -T. Farrell, A. E. Wood, E. C. Campbell, P. H. Hayward, and E. G. Skeates. .•'lt was decided to draw the attention of the Devonport Ferry Company to the fact that the steamer leaving Birkenhead at noon is delayed in berthing at Auckland, and it would therefore be more advantageous for the time of leaving Birkenhead to be altered to 12.5 p.m. The council supported the resolution of the Marine Boroughs' Association in deciding to send a delegation to Wellington to oppose the Waterfront Railway Bill unless adequate safeguards were provided. The Returned Soldiers' Association notified that Birkenhead's share of the Poppy Day fund was £19' 9s ; 6d, which it was decided to subsidise for the purpose of giving employment to returned soldiers. The Public Trustee was appointed sinking fund commissioner for the, antecedent liability loan, the amount of which has been received by the council. : ' • The town clerk stated that 'permits for buildings of a total value of £22,034 had been issued since January.
